STS Research

Two broad research programs are being initiated at Uppsala STS. All are related to three central research issues:

A. How is natural and social sciences affected by an increasingly "economistic" view of science? I.e. by increased demands on contributions to economic growth, and by increased endeavours to measure the outcome.

B. How is research policy related to production of science and economic use of knowledge? I.e. what principles are contemporary policy resting on.

C. How is scientific knowledge used in society and in a business setting? I.e. how does the role of science appear when it is approached from a user perspective?

The two main programs are:

"Science, Technology, Business"

"Science, Technology, Society": Research and Policy

These issues are investigated by researchers representing the Departments of History of Science, Philosophy, Sociology, Economic History, Business Studies, Information Technology, Energy System and STS Masters of Engineering.

Uppsala STS also promotes research and educational initiatives in general in the area of Science and Technology Studies.
